Alya Tannous
Born in London, of Syrian-Lebanese origin and Parisian by adoption, everything seemed to destine Alya Tannous for a career in creation or fashion but it was blown glass that became her specialty. Fascinated by this material, for over 10 years now she has been transforming and reshaping it to create her collections, constantly pushing the limits of grace and enhancing moments of conviviality with objects conceived as works of art. After studying theater and literature at Queen Mary University in London, Alya joined the Haute Couture House of Christian Lacroix in Paris alongside Marie Martinez. This was followed by several enriching years of collaboration with the public relations agency Pia de Brantes. But it was during a trip to Egypt with her mother, Lina Tannous, a renowned interior designer, to create blown glass pieces that this passion truly took hold. From then on, she had only one obsession: to express her idea of elegance, to revive a dormant craft, and above all, to bring together the people she loves around tables staged like real theatrical pieces, a reminiscence of her first vocation, blended with the art of living from her Levantine roots. Inspired by this material, for over 20 years mother and daughter have been transforming and reshaping it to create their collections, constantly pushing the limits of grace and elevating moments of conviviality with objects conceived as works of art.
2009 marked a turning point with her return to Beirut, where she opened her boutique Interiors by Alya Tannous, dedicated to the art of the table. Since then, they have continued to inspire us, and their collections are now distributed in numerous stores in Paris, New York, Geneva, Riyadh, and Beirut.
In 2017, one of their models was chosen by the prestigious House of Dior to complement its tableware collection. A return to Paris, the circle was complete. From breath and sand, they know how to make their vision of refined hospitality shine, imbued with delicacy and modernity. Their creations have been selected to adorn some of the finest Parisian restaurant tables (Lapérouse, La Maison Russe), as well as in pastry arts (featured in Pierre Hermé’s latest book Infiniment Pâtisserie and in the 2022 Christmas campaign of the Maison Pierre Hermé). In 2023, the “Tourbillon” collection, in collaboration with the prestigious Maison Christofle, was launched.Alya and Lina devote special care to the quality of their creations. Each glass being produced individually, it is essential to ensure that the original model is constantly respected in its dimensions, shapes, and colors. The art lies in balancing a form of standardization while also embracing imperfections, which are an integral part of the beauty of an object crafted entirely by hand.
