Maya Leroy

Based in Småland, Sweden, Maya Eline Leroy and Fabian Briels lead an atelier bearing Maya's name, rooted in a bold and intuitive approach. Their work has developed into a distinct and recognisable language within contemporary ceramics.

Both trained at Design Academy Eindhoven, The Netherlands, they returned to hands-on making during the 2020 Covid lockdown. Working from home without access to a kiln, they began experimenting with air-dry clay and resin-based glazes, materials available to them at the time. This limitation became the foundation for their unique technique and visual expression, combining painting and hand-building into sculptural ceramic forms. Their bold use of colour emerged partly as a response to the darker days of the lockdowns, introducing vibrancy and optimism.

The atelier's work consists of unique, hand-built pieces, forming an ever-expanding collection that merges artistry and craftsmanship. Over time, this practice has been refined through a growing body of work, balancing function with a strong artistic presence.
