Wan Liya is one of the Chinese artists who started the creation of modern and contemporary ceramic art earlier.

Since the establishment of his personal pottery studio in 1989, Wan Liya has personally witnessed and experienced the whole modernity process of Chinese ceramic art for 30 years and played an active role in it.

Wan Liya and five other Chinese ceramic artists participated in the Ceramic Millennium andConference held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1999.

He participated in the "The Hague Under The Heaven" Chinese Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition held in The Hague, The Netherlands 2011. Princess Maxima of the Netherlands opened the work of Wan Liya to show the opening of the exhibition.

He won the Silver Award of "Gyeonggi International Ceramic Art Biennale and Competition" sponsored by Korea National Ceramics Foundation in 2011. Wan Liya is one of China's artists who has won the highest international ceramic art award and plaied a positive role in the international influence of Chinese ceramic art.

+ Education

  • Wan Liya’s more than thirty years of ceramic work can be roughly divided into the following three stages:
  • The first stage: research and experiment on ceramic technology and materials.
  • The second stage: Starting from traditional ceramics, strive to find meaningful associations and clues in the conversion process of traditional and modern Chinese ceramics.
  • The third stage: to return to the inherent characteristics of the ceramic itself, and to explore and experience the personal spiritual state.
  • Wan Liya has planned three international ceramic art exhibitions in China. It aims to explore the current status of contemporary ceramic art in the world and the modernity of Chinese ceramic art through curatorial way.
